Our Whole Lives (OWL)
OWL is a comprehensive sexuality education program developed by the Unitarian Universalist Association and the United Church of Christ. At developmentally appropriate levels, OWL promotes informed and responsible decision-making and sexual and emotional health in our communities. It fosters meaningful dialogue and parent-child communication. OWL helps participants apply their religious and moral values in an important area of their lives and deepens commitment to one’s faith tradition.
4-6th & Adult OWL classes will be available this year with Amelia Dorn, Glenn Barrows, Laurie Hipley, Mary Kay Myers, Kellie Teter, Julie Berk, and DRE Eric Bliss as our extraordinary OWL team. Adult Classes will run from September - December. 4-6th Classes will begin Feb 14th and end April 10th. A combined OWL service celebrating both classes and their participants will happen in June of 2012.
Coming of Age (COA)
COA will be offered in the spring of 2012 from January 17 – April 29th. This is a challenging, life altering curriculum for 6-8th graders designed to assist parents and children as they navigate through this complex time of development.
It is a mentored, 8 week journey of the mind, body, and spirit. Highlights include discussion groups on Youth Issues, Conflict Resolution, and Media, as well as a Wilderness experience, a Service Project, real Rites of Passage, and an end of the year COA worship service where the youth are welcomed into this benchmark life stage by the entire church congregation.
