Music is a part of the human experience, and a part of the unity that makes us one. At First Unitarian we see music as an integral part of worship and community-building. Each service is filled with living, breathing music reflecting and illuminating the themes of the service. Our community sings together every week; making music together allows us to create and experience a shared rhythm and quite literally be in harmony with one another. Many of our staff members, including our minister, are professional or amateur musicians. Music at First Unitarian draws us together and strengthens our connections.

Music is found in every culture and is a universal language of emotions. For early humans, there was no distinction among music, dance, ritual, and religion. Music offers perspective, reflection, and insight—it helps us to understand others, our world, and ourselves. It reaches us at an emotional level beyond the impact of words, and has the power to inspire and transform us. In making music, contemplating music, or receiving comfort from music, we are fostering spiritual growth, understanding, and healing.
