Welcome to Religious Exploration - [RE]

Message from Our Minister

Welcome to the Religious Exploration at First Unitarian Denver!  Our mission is to provide your child with a safe, challenging environment in which to learn and grow, connect with other children, and explore their own developing spirituality.  We believe this is best accomplished through participative learning, and an active exploration of age-appropriate materials. A central tenet of our program is that religious education is a community endeavor as much as an individual experience.  As such, our classroom encounters are built around the ideals of tolerance, inclusion, and respect for others.

It is our deepest hope that your family will discover a spiritual home within our church community.  There are many thoughtful and caring people at First Unitarian, and you are warmly invited to make your family a part of ours.

Peace and Blessings, Reverend Mike Morran

Message from our Director of Religious Exploration

Greetings!  It is both an honor and a blessing to serve this community as your Director of Religious Exploration.  The program here is vibrant and dynamic, thanks to the passionate work of previous DRE's, the creative energy from current staff, and the dedication from volunteers, families and this community to provide a meaningful and embodied RE program experience.  I am full of gratitude for the past work done in love, and am excited to see where we will go together.  We welcome learners at all ages and stages on their life's journey!  Whether you are a life long Unitarian Universalist, or this is your first experience with our beloved community, we are so very glad that you are here.

Our program for the 2017/2018 Religious Exploration program year will begin on September 17th.  May this year bring each of us connection, growth, and joy.

Warmest Welcomes,

Erin Kenworthy, Director of Religious Exploration

What Beliefs Do We Teach In Religious Exploration?

  • Everyone should be free to choose their beliefs.
  • In original goodness, with the understanding that evil occurs, often because of pain or ignorance.
  • In the Unity of existence.
  • That revelation is ever unfolding.
  • In salvation in this life through good deeds and service.
  • We believe that Jesus was a human prophet, and that other prophets have risen in other faith traditions.
  • We believe that love is more important than doctrine.
  • Radical Inclusivity

Guided by our principles, Unitarian Universalists (UUs) are called to work for racial and social justice; to nurture religious communities that are inclusive of people of all races, ethnicities, sexualities, gender, and cultural backgrounds; and to dismantle racism and other oppressions at home and in our larger society.

How to Enroll

Parents need to enroll their children in the RE program. This helps us communicate upcoming events and changes to programming. It also helps us better manage our room and journey guide resources.
